The reason New Zealand beef is so good is that the cattle are fed almost exclusively on lush grass year-round. They are occasionally supplemented with corn silage, grass silage, alfalfa silage, and/or barley. This natural feeding regimen makes the meat of New Zealand cattle exceptionally tender and flavorful. A dream for any gourmet!
While other cattle are often boosted with growth hormones or quickly treated with antibiotics, this practice is a no-go in New Zealand.
